🤖 I Met Scott the Robot This Morning...

Here's your weekly helping of interesting investing information and insights.

Opinion

This newsletter is late because I had an emergency work call and not a fashion emergency at Nordstrom Rack this morning when this little robot cooler named "Scott" rolls up across the street. It was loaded with food from Wild Fork and off it went down the snowy sidewalk.

Obviously I looked it up. Serve Robotics (ticker: SERV) - spun out of Uber in 2021. They make robots that deliver food within a couple miles. They've got serious partners: Uber (UBER) is their biggest investor and customer, NVIDIA (NVDA) makes their computer chips, and Magna (MGA) builds the robots. They're rolling out 2,000 of them by end of year through Uber Eats and DoorDash.

But there's a HUGE concern - they've never made money! Last quarter: $687,000 in revenue, but are burning cash like crazy. They just raised another $100 million to keep going. Classic race against time - either they scale big enough to make it work, or they run out of money and the stock crashes.

It's a fun concept and one that could scale across the globe. Check out their website and latest investor presentation and let me know if you'd ever consider gambling on a company like this!

"If your opinions on one subject can be predicted from your opinions on another, you may be in the grip of an ideology. When you truly think for yourself, your conclusions will not be predictable." — Kevin Kelly

The Automatic Millionaire by David Bach was one of the first financial freedom books I read, and it was a pleasure to hear him on DOAC. David Bach even highlights why home ownership is so important... because of the forced savings! This is a great listen for anyone who's in need of being shown the path of financial freedom.

Ray Kroc didn't start McDonald's (MCD), but he got the ball rolling that turned it into a global powerhouse that feeds 65-70 million people daily! This was a really fun episode to listen to and it made me want to run out and buy more McDonald's... not the food, but the stock!

Here's your weekly helping of interesting investing information and insights. Opinion I recently hopped on The Deep End podcast with Ryne Williams and Ari Gutman and talked about "Cathedral Investing." Standing outside St. Paul’s in London last Spring, I had a revelation: the people who dug the foundation in 1087 knew they’d be dead long before the roof was finished. They were "Ghost Architects" building a masterpiece they’d never actually sit inside of. In investing, we’re doing the same...

Here's your weekly helping of interesting investing information and insights. Opinion Quick update on why I brought IDVO and DGRO into the Roth this week and sold 25% of SCHY to make room. SCHY is still my core international holding—great fund, 0.08% expense ratio, 131 quality holdings. But IDVO does covered calls on international stocks, pays out around 5% instead of 3.5% and has much faster dividend growth. The 0.66% expense ratio is a bit high, but in a Roth all the tax issues that come...

Here's your weekly helping of interesting investing information and insights. Opinion This week we hit a major milestone as our net worth crept past the $1,000,000 mark. That includes all assets like investments, savings, home equity and kids 529 college funds. We shared nine things that helped us achieve seven figures in a very quick VIDEO. What wasn't shared was that literally nothing changed in our lives from a month ago other than numbers on a screen. When I told my wife we were...
