🧘‍♂️ 5 Quotes To Keep Calm When Stocks Aren't

The stock market has been dropping faster than amateur drinkers on St. Patrick's Day, and the media is predicting doom and gloom.

From what I can tell, only two people should be worried: fixed income retirees and traders.

Those with long investing horizons ahead of us, get excited because the stock market is less expensive than it was six months ago.

0.28% less expensive to be exact.

Will it pop or drop from here? I have no idea, nor does anyone else.

But we do know that over time, companies will continue to innovate and grow, making them more valuable.

I've been collecting thoughts and ideas for years, and I dove into my database to pull five quotes to help keep you focused and ignore the noise.

If you are using your investments or trading to live, buckle up...it could be a bit shaky.

But as we heard in the Navy, "Smooth seas do not make good sailors."

I present you, dear dividend investing reader, five stock market quotes to set your mind at ease:

"The big money is not in the buying and the selling but in the waiting." -Charlie Munger

This perfectly captures the essence of long-term investing - patience creates wealth, not frequent trading.

"Before you buy a stock, ask yourself "Would I be happy buying this if the market were to close for five years?" If you say yes to that, then you're buying a business." -Warren Buffett, 1997 Shareholder Meeting

This Buffett wisdom tests if you think like a business owner rather than a market speculator.

"Warren Buffett's competitive advantage is that he PURPOSELY disengages from the stock market. He doesn't care about the stock market." —Robert Haggstrom, author of The Warren Buffett Way.

It highlights how arguably the world's greatest investor succeeds by focusing on businesses, not market movements.

"The stock market is a giant distraction to the business of investing." -John Bogle.

Bogle's quote reminds us to separate true investing from the noise of market movements, pointing out the difference between ownership and speculation.

"The stock market's one-day performance is a coin flip, but its rise over a decade is near certain. The point is not to make money every year but over decades." -Author Unknown (at least I can't find who said this, but I love it!)

This shows how trying to make money quickly in stocks often fails, while patient investing over many years is much more likely to succeed.

That's it and I'd love for you to reply and share what helps keep your mind at ease during times like these. I'll respond to every reply!

The "original" Professor G, Scott Galloway, had Barry Ritholtz on to talk his new book "How Not To Invest." One thought provoking observation Barry made was that being diversified means there's something in your portfolio that's always not doing well.

I'm writing this from our corner rental unit in the heart of Edinburgh, Scotland, which the locals pronounce "Ed-In-Bruh." My 16-year-old daughter Josie is a massive Harry Potter fan and has dreamed of visiting the UK since she was a little girl. We finally decided to make her dream come true. Our ten-day trip began in London and will end in a few days when we leave Scotland. Some of the Potter things we've done: taking a private filming location tour in London, Oxford, and medieval Lacock...

In the newsletter today I shared an incorrect screenshot of the total return of VTI vs FZROX since inception. I re-ran the comparison after a discussion on social media and I was in error. It appears FZROX underperformed VTI by almost 3%, which defeats the basis for my decision. Please disregard today’s main topic and my editor is looking for a new job. My sincerest apologies for any confusion this may have caused. ~Russ Unsubscribe · Preferences Copyright (C) *2025*DapperDividends*All rights...

I can't believe it. I'm actually going to be selling The Vanguard Total Stock Market Fund (VTI) this week. I know, I know. This is the same guy who has been preaching VTI as if it were the gospel of investing. The same fund that's making my wife look like a stock market genius when she started automatically investing $50 a week in December 2023 and has a 28.08% gain as of June 2025. The same VTI that I call the "easy button" for anyone who wants to own the entire US stock market without...
